Model # DareDevil Spade Bits

The DareDevil™ was designed to answer the needs of professional users in terms of speed, ease of use and hole quality. A first for spade bits, full cone threaded tip provides the speed needed to drill faster and it pulls the bit through the material with less effort and vibration than other spade bits. These new innovative DareDevil™ spade bits are available in 4" Stubby, 6" and 16" lengths. 6", and 12" extensions are also available along with a variety of sets ranging from 3 to 13 piece mixes.

Great bit for fast drilling

I compared a new 3/4" Bosch DareDevil spade bit against a new 11/16" brand name spade bit. I used 11/16" because it was all I had that was new. The advantage, if any, would go to the smaller 11/16" bit. The first thing I noticed is how much faster the DareDevil cuts through the wood compared to the standard bit. Bosch claims 2.4 times faster, and I would say that is about right. Bosch also says the DaveDevil leaves a cleaner exit hole, with less breakout. I also found this to be true, though the amount depends on the type of wood and grain orientation. One thing that you can't tell from watching the video is how easy it is to use the DareDevil bit. Because of the self feeding tip, it takes almost zero effort for me to drill through the wood. This is not the case with a standard spade bit. If you are going to be spending a day drilling holes, or drilling upside down, it is probably worth it to take a look at these new bits.
Pros Cuts fast, no effort needed
Cons none

I did an informal comparison a while back and found that the Rigid modified auger bits went through the wood really fast but left a terrible exit wound, with massive chipping. I found I liked the Milwaukee self feed bits the best. Smooth feed, left a clean hole, and stayed sharp a good while. One thing I disliked about Boschs earlier self feed spade was that as the feed screw broke through, it would stop drawing the bit through and you would have to supply the finishing push yourself. Have the new bit overcome this? http://www.flickr.com/photos/1...404136804/

no push needed

I found that I could drill completely through without using any pressure, and it still cuts very fast. In the video I used little to no pressure on the drill. The exit wound has little chipping with no pressure, but it increases as you add more pressure.
